The Highest 360 Degree Infinity Edge Pool On The Planet

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

The Palm Tower in Dubai will soon be home to the worlds first and highest 360 degree infinity edge swimming pool

Nakheel - Palm Tower

Over the last couple of decades, Dubai’s been on a building binge constructing the worlds tallest building, hotel and even ferris wheel.

Now, they're at it again, making a splash in the swimming pool world.. For the last couple of years, Dubai based developer, Nakheel has been building what will soon be the highest rooftop infinity edge pool on the planet and the first of its kind. In fact, once completed, The Palm Tower Pool will even surpass the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Pool in Singapore which has held the title as the worlds highest rooftop infinity pool since its completion in 2010 - but don't worry, it will still be the largest.

The Palm Tower building is located on Dubais iconic, man made Palm Jumeirah Island that resembles a palm tree encased by a circle. The island is so impressive it can actually be seen from space and the Tower is going to be one of the tallest on the isalnd. The pool will be located on the 50th floor of the newly built 52 story tower, 689 feet above the ground! That's only 33 feet higher than Singapores Skypool which resides 656 feet in the sky but winning is winning and Dubais new rooftop pool will put an end to the Sky Pools decade long reign as champ.

The pool has made some waves in the media as well being covered by CNN, Travel & Leisure, Forbes and many others - and not just because it's the new kid on the block...but because not only is The Palm Tower swimming pool going to be the new highest rooftop infinity edge pool in the world but it will also be the worlds first 360 degree rooftop perimeter overflow pool - So it's kind of a big deal.

The pool will offer a complete 360 degree panoramic view over the pools infinity edge boasting incredible watery views in every direction. It's the first time this has ever been done and there simply isn't another rooftop infinity pool like this anywhere else on earth. From anywhere in the pool, you'll be looking out, over an infinity edge. Plus, the pool wraps around the entire building so you can literally swim around the entire building next to an overflowing infinity edge, nearly 700 feet in the air. Needless to say, it will be a one of a kind experience in the world of swimming pools.

But this concept isn't the only one. It was previously believed that a similar concept by Compass Pools out of the UK, called “Infinity London” was going to be the first rooftop 360 degree perimeter overflow pool. However, it seems Dubai got there first. So come the end of this year, The Palm Tower will be breaking records and setting new ones. It looks like we'll have to update some of our posts, too. But, if Infinity London ever does come to fruition, it will still be the first rooftop acrylic panel infinity pool.

Palm Towers rooftop pool isn't just a swimming pool either. The top three floors including the pool are whats known as "The View at the Palms" and consist of a restaurant above the pool on the 51st floor and a public viewing deck at the topmost level on the 52nd floor. So you can hang by the pool in one of the cabanas our loungers, or grab a bite to eat all while taking in a completely panoramic view of the city and sea.

But building a pool at these heights isn't an easy feat. Especially on an island. At nearly 700 feet off the ground, the altitude and windy conditions coming from the Persian Gulf, created some construction challenges. Lifting materials to these heights in windy sea breeze conditions is no simple task. In fact, when designing the tower and pool, the swimming pool itself was actually designed to help minimize the effects of sea breezes on the tower, holding roughly 250 thousand gallons of water, weighing around 2 million pounds.

Structural work of the rooftop pool has already been completed and according to the developer, Nakheel, the tower and pool are due to be complete by the end of 2019. It shouldn't be long now before we start seeing some amazing poolside pics and videos of the Palm Tower pool.

Here's a look at the construction of the Palm Tower. At the very top, you can see the swimming pool taking shape.

I cant wait to see what Dubais got planned next!
