Puppy Therapy Sessions By The Pool
Updated: Aug 19, 2020
A hotel in Bali provides puppies for guests to play with by the pool and only costs $22 a night.
Yes, this is real life. There's actually a hotel in Bali that offers bi-weekly "puppy therapy" sessions so hotel guests can play with baby pups by the swimming pool. As if a vacation to Bali for only $22.00 a night didn't sound good enough already, now there's no excuse for not having this spot on the top of your travel list.

Heaven on earth is officially a real place and it's located in Indonesia. Puri Garden Hotel & Hostel is a boutique hotel and hostel in the heart of Ubud, Bali that offers free puppy therapy sessions, free yoga and free breakfast as part of your stay. The hotel teamed up with local charity, the Bali Dog Association to bring in puppies twice a week for hotel guests to play with while hanging out by the pool.
So twice a week from 1:30pm to 3:30pm every Tuesday and Thursday, the charity sets up a small enclosed area by the pool where guests can sit and play with the rescue puppies, poolside. And not only are hotel guests playing with these adorable pups, but they're helping the association give the dogs a better life in general.
The Bali Dog Association is a voluntary ran and non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of dogs. Their goal is to end the unnecessary suffering of street dogs on the island by rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing the 30,000-some dogs that get killed on the island per year. And actually that number in 2017 according to an article in Inhabitat was 70,000.
So puppy playtime is also for a great cause. The puppies benefit immensely from the affection they receive from hotel guests given their traumatic upbringings. In this Unilad article, Hostel owner Daniel Silva says that these lovely afternoon sessions help get these puppies ready for adoption, building their lost trust in humans:
My guests are the ones making the puppies feel more at peace as many of them are very traumatised. The puppy therapy helps them to re-socialise and trust gain in humans as here in Bali lots of locals treat them very badly. But its also a great opportunity for our guests to have a great time cuddling these little ones. Plus this activity helps to prepare the puppies for adoption
The hostel also donates to the charity which is just another reason to visit. And apparently playing with puppies can really help people relax and studies have also shown that spending time near the water helps people de-stress.
Puppies aside, Puri Garden Hotel & Hostel was actually voted as one of the most luxurious hostels in the world by Hostelworld with a 9.6 Superb rating out of 1473 reviews. So even if you're not a fan of puppy playtime, the hotel & hostel are worth a visit.
